On the site of a small temple from the 5th century BC, King Maussolos had a larger marble temple built in Labraunda in 377 BC, which was completed in 344 BC after a further reconstruction. According to an inscription Maussolos' brother and successor Idrieus consecrated the temple to Zeus Labraundos, who was also worshipped under the name Zeus Stratios. The temple was excavated and researched by Swedish archaeologists from 1948 to 1960 together with the surrounding facilities. |

Godfather Zeus is the supreme Olympic god of Greek mythology and more powerful than all other Greek gods combined. Zeus is usually represented with a sceptre and a bundle of lightning. Above him stood only the personified fate - his daughters, the moirs. He also had to submit to them. |
